Transferring Your CNA License From Another State

Before we getting into explaining to you how you complete a CNA license transfer, it should be known that it is possible that you may need to pass the CNA exam in the state that you are moving to in order to successfully complete the transfer, also known as reciprocity, as well as be legally allowed to work in the new state as a CNA.

1.) But all in all, first step of the transfer process is you need to call your states nurse aide registry, where you will need to ask them to provide you with a license transfer application, which you will either be able to download the form online, or they will send you one in the mail. During the call it is important to ask them where they want you to send the application, which the options will be back to the registry or sending it out to your new states nurse aide registry.

2.) The next step to do is get into contact with your new states nurse aide registry and ask them what their requirements are for transferring your certified nurse aide license. So once you are on the phone with them, you will be able to take note of all the requirements as well as give you a chance to tell them about your plans for wanting to transfer your CNA license to their state. During this time you can ask them about any other prerequisites needed to completed the process, some of which can include; a new clean background check, certain medical checks, a photocopy of your current license, a phote ID, photocopy of your social security card among others. During the phone call you will also be informed about how they want you to send in your application for transfer, which is a good time to ask if you can fax it in, which is not only the fastest way to get your CNA license tranfer application in, but is also the safest way, insuring that it will get there successfully and not lost in the mail.

Once you complete the following steps, you will be added to your states nurse aide registry which will prove to employers in your new state that you are a good and safe employee that is worth of holding a job as a CNA in their facility. If you haven’t worked as a CNA in the last 2 years, or have worked a small amount of time, you will need to ask your new states registry what the requirements are for re-activating your CNA license, which most states requirement around 10 to 20 hours of paid employment during the 2 year period of when your license was active, which if you didn’t work this much or at all the state may have a grace period in which they allow you to obtain those hours within a certain amount of time, which if you do so then you will be able to obtain an active CNA license.

Becoming A CNA Through The Certification Process

Getting your certified as a CNA in todays day and age can be one of the smartest choice you can make as far as getting and keeping employment goes as the medical feild really hasn’t been hit at all by the meltdown of the economy, which if anything the demand has increased for workers who have the prerequisites. Before we delve into the CNA certification topic and how to get your own, the first thing we want to communicate to you is the fact that having your certification is essentially an optional credential in some staates, which in these states some facilities allow individuals to work as a CNA without having done any real formal or accredited training.

But these states and facilities and few and far between and even if you find a place that allows this, your role as a CNA will be a lot more limited to the capacity of the different job tasks that your employer will permit you to do, and your salary will most likely be a good amount less than what it would have been compared to what it would be if you have your certified nursing assistant certification. You will also be considered to be hired first over one without credentials any day, so all in all it is obvious that getting certified as a CNA is the way to go in both the short run and the long run of your career.

So when you have completed a state approved accredited CNA class, you will be aloud to sit for your CNA certification unless you have extensive knowledge in the CNA profession and want to take the CNA test without doing any training course at all. CNA certified nurse aide certification test is offered in two different sections, the first of the two being a traditional multiple choice test, and depeding on your states rules, this part of your certification test will be an exam that includes anywhere from 70 to up to 100 questions where test takers usually need to get a score of 80 percent higher to pass that portion of the CNA certifying exam, which a passing score on the multiple choice exam will permit the individual to take the second section which is the skills test.

The skills test is simply what it sounds like, which you will need to show that you have the skills that are needed to care for patients when you become a CNA. You will need to do a certain number or skills all ow which you will do in front of an examiner, which the pass rate for this section is 100 percent so you will have three tries to do your skills questions. Now some test centers prolong the agony or your anticipation to whether you passed, which if you do then your CNA certication will be mailed to you within a small timeframe, a couple weeks or less, which other test centers will let you know right there and then. If you don’t pass the exam you will be given 2 more tries to pass your test.

You certification will be vaild for 2 years, where during those 2 years the individual will need to work as a CNA for a minimum amound of time to be able to renew their certificate, the number is set by your state, which the number is small and usually only around 10 to 30 hours of work that you were paid for.

Doing Online CNA Training To Get Certified

Doing CNA training online, also known as distance CNA learning, can provide you with the opportunity to fit your training around your work and personal schedule, allowing you to set the times that you want to do your studying instead of being forced to attend school at a certain time. This can appeal to all the parents out there as well as those who have just a busy schedule in general, not to mention those who want to save money as taking a online course will allow you to do all of your studying at home, saving you money on what you would have spent for gas to get you to and from school. These classes also provide students with the chance to really learn at their own pace, whether that be faster or slower, instead of being forced to learn at the pace that is set by the teacher, and one can even study into the wee hours of the night as these classes are offered to the students 24/7.

These classes generally required a full time committment where you can complete the entire course in as little as 3 to 5 weeks, allowing you to be prepared for your states CNA exam very quickly which will in turn allowing you to start working as a CNA before you know it. As far as how the timeframe of the course, online CNA programs run anywhere from 75 to 120 hours, the minimum requirement for the total hours is actually dictated by the rules set by your state.

Admission Requiremetns For Online CNA Training Courses

Now online CNA training classes come with certain admission requirements that vary depending on the program you are applying to which they can consist of things like:

Passing a background check

A high school education

Proving that you had your immunizations done

A clean tuberculosis (TB) exam.

Due to the fact the prerequistes can vary, the best thing to do is locate a class that you want to do your training through and find out all of their admission requirements so you can fulfill them and sucessfully apply to the program.

FInding Accredited Training Courses Online

Now a simple search for “cna classes online” can get you started on your search, but during this search you want to make sure the training is in fact coming from an accredited school. Keep in mind that you can also call your local community colleges and ask them if they offer CNA trainng courses online as many community colleges offer accredited CNA training. Now either way can result in you being able to start your online certified nursing assistant training , but no matter which method you choose you again want to make sure it is accredited which you can do so by contacting your states CNA registry which you can verify the course you want to take through them.

Also when it comes to picking your training course, community colleges are one of the best ways to go as due to the fact that you cannot do your clinical training online, the teacher or the course who will be an RN or LPN, will be networked with local hosptials and care facilities and will help you get book hours at the facility to do your clinical training at.
